Civil War portrait photgraph [picture], [between 1863 and 1864].

Copy print photograph of Civil War veteran Philip Fox, a Fitchburg, Wisconsin resident who served as the first assistant surgeon with the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment during the war. The photograph shows Fox seated and in full military dress. Born in Lima, Indiana, Fox graduated from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in New York City in 1863. After graduation, he enlisted in the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry as a surgeon. After mustering out in 1864, Fox moved to Fitchburg where he practiced medicine in the Madison area until his retirement. A copy negative of the image is also included.
